| What is Alzheimer's disease (AD)?
Dementia is a brain disorder that seriously affects a person's ability to carry out daily activities. The most common form of dementia among older people is Alzheimer's disease (AD), which initially involves the parts of the brain that control thought, memory, and language. Although scientists are learning more every day, right now they still do not know what causes AD, and there is no cure.
AD is named after Dr. Alois Alzheimer, a German doctor. In 1906, Dr. Alzheimer noticed changes in the brain tissue of a woman who had died of an unusual mental illness. He found abnormal clumps (now called amyloid plaques) and tangled bundles of fibers (now called neurofibrillary tangles). Today, these plaques and tangles in the brain are considered signs of AD.
Scientists also have found other brain changes in people with AD. Nerve cells die in areas of the brain that are vital to memory and other mental abilities, and connections between nerve cells are disrupted. There also are lower levels of some of the chemicals in the brain that carry messages back and forth between nerve cells. AD may impair thinking and memory by disrupting these messages.

| Just don't know why a lot of people has not discovered fishing. They are missing a lot in their life by not fishing, where one experiences the fresh air, the serenity of the place, the connection with nature, the undisturbed quietness, the remoteness from other people and daily routines, the day long experience of waiting for a fish to bite and to sum it all, the laid back experience of every single fishing place that you visit for one's fishing. But did I mention the excitement of getting a bite? The adrenalin rush when your fishing rod flickers and twitches? The start of the sport, the reeling experience of the fight with the fish, the tangles and twitches while reeling it in, and the exhilirating experience of landing it or the agony of losing it. That is where the wait pays off! But, hey, a whole day of waiting is not all lost even if you don't land a single fish or if you just catch a small minnow. The experience I mentioned in my first paragraph is All There is To it!!

| New chemical gives insight into Alzheimer's
Test allows doctors to spot disease more accuratelyBOSTON - A chemical designed by doctors in Los Angeles could give unprecedented insight into the ravages of Alzheimer’s disease and provide a new way to test for treatments, a study showed on Wednesday.Previously the only way to determine if a person suffers from the devastating brain ailment has been to remove some brain tissue or with an autopsy. The new study by doctors at the University of California, Los Angeles, is part of a larger quest to find a better method to diagnose the condition using tracers that can be detected with a positron emission tomography, or PET, scan. The chemical, known as FDDNP, attaches to the abnormal clumps of proteins called amyloid plaques and tau tangles that develop in Alzheimer’s sufferers and inhibit messages being processed by the brain. In the study to be published in Thursday’s New England Journal of Medicine, Gary Small and his colleagues discovered that the chemical allowed doctors to pick out which of 83 volunteers had Alzheimer’s, which had mild memory problems, and which were functioning normally for their age.It was 98... | |

| Home remedies for dry hair?
1.Like everything else about true, lasting beauty, healthy hair begins within your body. Start with your diet. Include lots of green leafy vegetables and sweet juicy fruits. Dairy products such as milk and fresh yogurt will also help. Fresh coconut is also considered excellent "hair food" - sprinkle grated coconut over salads,
diced fresh fruit, or rice. 2.Cut down on refined, processed and canned foods. Ayurveda considers foods with artificial preservatives and chemical additives stripped of their inherent "intelligence" and therefore not helpful in supplying nutrition to your body and mind. Ice-cold beverages also hamper the process of digestion
and assimilation of nutrients.
3.Cooking with certain spices adds flavor to your food and provides nourishment for your hair. Cumin, turmeric and black pepper are some "hair-friendly" spices. Add a healthy pinch of each to single-portion soups and stews as they are cooking. Sauté 1/8 –1/4 teaspoon each of the three spices in a teaspoon of ghee (clarified butter) or olive oil and add to cooked veggies. Roasted ground cumin and ground black pepper can be sprinkled over fresh yogurt.

| I have 2 himis...one has silky hair which rarely tangles and is fairly easy to manage ...but my other cat has the cottony fur which tangles and matts practically 5 minutes after he is brushed. To top it off he hates being brushed...and hates to have the tangles cut out. I would appreciate any ideas on how to keep them from getting matted....any special sprays or detanglers recommended? Do you think the hairball remedies really work? | |

| i am hoping that someone anyone could give me some advice or ideas on which shamppo would be best for my hair. I have colored it numerous times but not in the last 8 months or so. i have very dry hair. It takes me at least a half hour to brush throught the tangles once i get out of the shower! i have spent money on the most exspenive name brands that i can find for dry/damaged hair. It would seem like it was working for the first day or so and then the same problem would occur. I have boughten leave in conditioners, detanglers, hot oil treatments, mositurizers. Nothing seems to work the end results are always the same dry hair and then sometimes dandruff do to all the different types of shamppos i have used. Does anyone have a favorite shamppo that would help this problem, or any suggestions on what i can do to bring my soft undry hair back? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you | |
