General Music Discussion
I looked around a while for a thread like this, but I don't think one exists. Seems like there are a ton of music fans on here, but there is really only music discussion going on in the file sharing forum. Use this to ask questions (whats the name of that song?), talk about concerts you just went to, a new band you are just getting into, and all of the above. Post whatever the hell you feel like when it comes to music, I'm sure at some point some interesting debate and conversation will occur. Someone get the ball rolling here.........edit: Okay, okay me first. What is your favorite Radiohead album? Personally, I like The Bends. I judge an album in its entirety on my ability to appreciate it as one piece of work. Meaning, if I can listen to it all the way through, and enjoy everything about it...then it's a winner in my book. I do like most Radiohead, but The Bends seems to flow better than the rest. I love talking to myself.
Unsigned Bands
CrossFire-Radio plays your general music types like - Rob Zombie, Disturbed, 3 Doors Down, Alan Jackson, 98 degrees, B.B. King, and so much more... Aside from those, we also play the Unsigned Artists. Local bands here in PA and bands from all over the world. USA, Canada, India, etc etc. There are alot of talents out there that nobody reconizes, because they don't hear them. Thats one of the reasons CrossFire-Radio is here, so these bands that nobody knows about CAN be heard from all over the world. Do you have friends in a band? Are YOU in a band? Would you like to have your band or your friends band on an internet radio station?Do you even like unsigned bands? or do you only go for the ones people know the names of?But always remember - every band out there was once "Unsigned".
Violinists! What Genre Of Music Do You Play?
As a kid classical was forced upon us in the most horrific way: tabs. I rue the day I ever saw a violin tab. Quite honestly, I didn't pay attention to them, and learned the music by heart. Finally when they taught music reading in General Music, I was too bored to pay attention. It was at that time that my violin teacher made a little bet with the class: "Play The Star Spangled Banner standing on your head, and I'll give you a whole bag of Snickers." That was too much for me! I trooped up there and said I could do it, and did! 'Course I had help getting up there, and I was allowed to rest my feet against a wall, but damn if my head hurt by the time I was finished! Anything for candy, though...Little did I know that it was a test, and that I'd be shuttled off to a private teacher who would teach me to read music as well as to play all the crap that was in the typical violin books of the time. Finally, in high school I was given real music- real classical music like Mahler and Grieg, and Vivaldi! I was very happy with classical until in college I was given folk music to play, and then rock -- I really was still grounded in classical. Nowadays I prefer baroque and...
6 String...HELP!!!???
Okay, I finally got ahold of a guitar-it's a Yamaha 6-string (acoustic). I've explored sounds on it, and I figured out that each string is a different note, and the strings make a scale. I don't know which scale, and I don't know the notes. Could anyone help me? How do you make sharps/flats? Which notes are there? How do you tune? I understand how the sound works: as you strum it, the strings vibrate, making the sound. The size (circumference) of the "string", and how tight it is, gives you the note. If you hold one of the strings down, it won't vibrate, and that note won't be played. So, it's not so much what you're playing, but what you're not playing. Am I right? FYI, I already play an instrument (flute), so I understand general music terminology. Any help would be AWESOME, and thanks in advance!

Olympic child singing star revealed as fake (from Yahoo news)
Quoted from Yahoo news just now ...BEIJING (AFP) - The little girl who starred at the Olympic opening ceremony was miming and only put on stage because the real singer was not considered attractive enough, the show's musical director has revealed.Pigtailed Lin Miaoke was selected to appear because of her cute appearance and did not sing a note, Chen Qigang, the general music designer of the ceremony, said in an interview with a state broadcaster aired Tuesday.Photographs of Lin in a bright red party dress were published in newspapers and websites all over the world and the official China Daily hailed her as a rising star on Tuesday. But Chen said the girl whose voice was actually heard by the 91,000 capacity crowd at the Olympic stadium during the spectacular ceremony was in fact seven-year-old Yang Peiyi, who has a chubby face and uneven teeth."The reason why little Yang was not chosen to appear was because we wanted to project the right image, we were thinking about what was best for the nation,"Chen said in an interview that appeared briefly on the news website Sina.com before it was apparently wiped from the Internet in China.read the whole story...
