| The University of the Philippines Rural High School was established as a subsidiary of the Department of Agricultural Education (DAE, now Department of Agricultural Education and Rural Studies or DAERS) of the University of the Philippines College of Agriculture, pursuant to Sec.4 of Act 3377 of the Philippine Legislature which was approved on December 3, 1927. The school, with a vocational curriculum, served as a practice school for the training of teachers, provided secondary education in agriculture for those preparing for college, and trained intermediate school graduates in agriculture.Classes in the UPRHS were first held in the rooms of DAE. A concrete one-story building with a multi-purpose hall, two classrooms, a kitchen and a sewing room was constructed in 1931. At present the building now houses the Southern Tagalog Agricultural Resources, Research and Development Consortium Office. With the institution of Home Economics in 1939, the school had two curricula -- the Boys' and the Girls' Curricula -- which were basically the same except that the latter had home economics.During the Japanese regime, the school continued functioning with the major curricular... | |

| Hello All,This question is based on a real-life situation. I am open to hearing all perspectives on this issue. The city seat of my county had an election this past Tuesday. An issue was put up to a vote regarding cutting the pay that the city council members receive. The city council members are currently are paid $ 19,854 per year. Three options were presented to the voters: 1. Keep the pay at $19,854/yr.
2. Drop the pay to $10,000/yr.
3. Drop the pay to $85.00 per council meeting. 54% of the voters voted to cut the pay to $85.00 per meeting. This troubles me deeply. The reason is because this city, as well as the county, already have a long history of corruption, nepetism, cronyism, and malfeasance. Which may, or may not be so unlike your own city and county boards, as this kind of corruption can be found in all levels of government. My concern is that so deeply cutting the pay scale of our elected representatives will draw either back-room styled crooks and thieves to these positions of influence and authority. Or, candidates who do not have a high quality character, education, or experience base. A good councilman or woman does not only... | |

| Much of my job-related reading lately has involved character education. I'm really not sure what I think of this. Shouldn't parents decide what their children's character education comprises? Are we to make sure all the kids think alike, so we can have a nation of androids? At the same time as this concerns me, I have to admit that teaching gets increasingly difficult because so many of the kids have such terrible attitudes and behavior these days. Respect has almost entirely gone out the window, and if the kids can't respect others, can they respect themselves? If the parents aren't bringing them up with a good moral base, should the schools take over the job?I demand respect for all and tolerance in my class, but that's just one hour of the day. Then what? Any suggestions?[em]confused[/em] | |

| Teachers have a big responsibility on a day to day basis dealing with children in various school settings. It stands to reason that their influences impact their students for years to come. I know that in their own training they do get the benifit of learning material dealing with human development. I think that they do not apply it very well. Do they really expect to motivate and help to develop increased self-esteem in children when they themselves are not examples. I say to teachers,"Get it together. You are entrusted with the task of helping to shape the young hearts and mind of children along with the three"R'S". Elevate yourself so you can lift the children". Feedback please! | |
