| Police arrest gunman who entered an elementary school in Maine. No reports of injuries at Stockton Springs Elementary School. Gunman held 11 pupils hostage but was tackled outside the classroom. The gunman walked into a fifth-grade classroom around the start of the day. State police were called at 8:42 a.m. and Hofland was arrested about 20 minutes later. What safety precautions does the school your kids are at take? DO you think schools should just factor into their budget for security guards? | |

| I'm an English teacher at a training center. I teach grammar to students of Grade 6. The English education here is less pratical, it's more exam-oriented. So many students are good at taking exams but weak in speaking and listening. I've never been abroad, so I've got no idea of the education in other countries, particularly in English-speaking countries. I've browsed the websites of several elementary schools in the UK, but they only refer to the subjects. How do the teachers teach the students? And what do they teach them? I'd appreciate if you can tell me about, like listening, speaking, reading, writing, grammar, and text books. Thank you in advance. | |

| Ok, I need advice here, I can't believe this happened...I thought politics, like religion was not to be talked about in classroom..(Though taking G♥d out of schools was wrong, He should stay, especially since they allowing other religions in)Anyways, that is beside the point and this is what happened. In my sons first grade class the teachers aid was sitting with my son and other boys..The other boys were talking about candidate A and the teachers aid was agreeable to them, but when my son said something about liking candidate B, she looked at him in shock..[em]shocked[/em]What kind of crap is that??? She just made my son feel like they are all against him..What is ironic though, is that there are many candidate B signs where we live, so I am thinking where his school is located, candidate A is very popular..Still, they were not in a discussion on politics for their lesson, the boys were just talking and I think the teachers aid should have said something and not made my son feel bad..Or allowed the boys to go at it on their own..I think she getting involved like that was very unprofessional..What do you think? Should we call the school and... | |

I understand he was never convicted of anything ... and can live wherever he wants. ..."What do you think? Would you be concerned?

| This is a photo of the Elementary School that I went to from second grade until I graduated eight grade. The school is called El Portal Elementary School. It had K-8th when I went. Now it only goes from K to 6th and the students have to be bused to Yosemite National Park or Mariposa to finish school. Once the students go to high school they have to go to Mariposa high school.
El Portal is 17 miles from the Valley Floor of Yosemite National Park and 35 miles from Mariposa.
I am glad I am not raising children up there because it would be a hard decision on which way to send my child to school. It would depend on how the school where as far as academics.
I now live 72 miles from El Portal and last Monday my sister and I took a drive up to El Portal to see the old stomping grounds. We had not been up there in almost 10 years. My older sister was visiting from Washington State and we decided to take a drive. We had a good day taking her son all around the old stomping grounds and talking about old times.
The class rooms where two grades to a class room. We had 1-2, 3-4, and so on. | |
