| In my family, we make our baked beans baked in the over with slices of precooked bacon on top and it's tastes sooo good. My fiancee moved in with us and thought this was insane because he's never heard of it. So do any of you mylotters do this?? | |

| There are so many different kinds of dried Beans. Lentils, Navy Beans, Kennedy Beans, Pinto Beans, etc. Most of them I have heard of before but I don't know what the differenece is between them or the best way to cook them. In the past, I have cooked lentils using a ham bone and it turned out quiet well. What are your favorite types of dried beans? How do you cook or prepare them? Are there certain beans that are better for dishes than other beans? | |

Since I don't have room to plant here and I'm doing most everything in containers, I planted the bush variety for beans to keep from having to find something for them to climb.I bought the regular[i]'garden variety'[/i] (pun intended) green beans and also found these neat purple beans too.The stalk is a bit more of a purple color than the green bean and the tiny bean-looking things that sprouted are a dark eggplant color, and look at the pretty purple flowers!The bean itself is supposed to be quite long and a pretty purple, but will cook up to be green. Isn't that neat?Here's a picture I took this morning. If you've been following my other discussions in this forum, this is the one that is growing in the KFC chicken bucket.Have you ever planted any vegetables that were a bit odd or outside of the norm? Did they taste the same? Better? | |

| Has anyone ever tried Lifesaver Jelly Beans? If you like lifesavers, your gonna love these. I found them at easter, but have been unable to find them since. | |

| I am just making supper, and wondered what you all thought.I have some lovely little meat pies, pure meat, absolutely delicious, with beef gravy, green beans, and Lima Beans or Sweet Potatoes.I don't know which to make. | Although i do not eat out alot i have found that nearly every time i go into a cafe the kids meals always come with baked beans and chips.
Surely in this day and age of healthy eating they could offer an alternative.
I have a 11 year old daughter who dislikes beans and chips she would much prefer a fruit salad. My seven year old son also does not like beans. So this leaves them with a very limited choice. The only place i have found that offers more variety is a vegetarian restaurant in my home town but it can be very expensive so is a rare treat. | |

| OK - so it's not something we discuss on a regular basis, but hey - do we or do we not ALL deal with this at some point? If it's not our partners holding our heads under the blanket or uncles wanting us to pull their fingers, it's our S/Os (or fathers) waiting until we're in the car in a snow storm with the heat on full blast only to say, "I'm sorry, but I didn't have to before!"[em]surrender[/em] Can we avoid it - does this work? According to some, yes, this does work to some degree. Some add the soda before when soaking the beans and others add the soda during the cooking process. But, they recommend no more than 1/8 tsp to a large pot of beans because the soda reduces the Vitamin B1 content of the beans.How about you? Have you tried this? Since we had baked beans with our dinner tonight, I guess I'll find out in short order if the mistake was mine to make, huh?[em]confused[/em] | |

| I purchased some "Mung Bean Wash" which is a bag of mung beans which are dried peeled and sliced in half.
Now, I am wondering what to do with them?
Does anyone have any vegetarian recipes that use "Mung Bean Wash" or peeled and sliced dry mung beans?
I would like to cook them but I do not know how? | |

| I love eating coffee beans, especially when I'm pi$$ed off, and need something to chew on. Last night one of my husband's ex-wives annoyed me, and I just wanted to bit something, so I ate a cup of fresh coffee beans. YUMMY!!! That cheered me up just fine. When I'm in a good mood I get out my fondu pot, melt some chocolate, drop some coffee beans into it and stir it up, and eat it with a spoon. Other times I'll mix up the beans and chocolate in my pot, and lay it out on a cookie sheet on wax paper, and put it in the freezer for a while, making my special Coffee Bean Bark. YUMMY!!! I especially like the stuff with white chocolate, or with melted Frenh Mint choolate bars (chocolate flaoured with Mint IN the chocolate) that we get at Laura Secord stores, here in Canada. YUMMY!!!!!!!!! | |
