originated from the Pheonician vavv which was adopted by the
Greeks and then dropped from the alphabet in
the 7th century BC. The Etruscans borrowed their F from the Greeks
and altered it into a symbol similar to our 8. The 8 appears in early Latin as the digraph F8 and was
later simplified to F.
